craine street workspace
craine street, south melbourne
inspired by the mid-century art deco movement of new york, this contemporary multi- storey office workspace embraces the design principles of the past, within an existing monotone streetscape in south melbourne.
from street level, the building re-defines the streetscape, with grey feature brickwork blended with refined ornate detailing, dark metal cladding and steel framed windows.
entering the space, occupants are met with an expansive open void, leading to central lift and stair core, providing a sense of invitation and connection to the street.
upper levels appear to withdraw from the street, setback from front façade, darkened by metal cladding and full height glazing, however softened by perimeter planter landscaping.
recessive form to upper levels create a social space for enhanced workplace culture, with open roof terrace, with cityscape view across melbourne skyline.
the site accommodates dual frontages, for which both are activated with pedestrian access to craine street at the front, and vehicle access to basement carparking to the rear.
the design proposal consists of five levels of open plan office workspace, with expansive entry lobby to each level, facilitated by central lift and stair core.
craine street workspace embraces the design principles of this iconic style in a new light, providing an inspired work space environment for collaboration and well-being.
